Costa Dorada needn't cost the earth! by Daniel Franklin

Salou's beachfront - perfect for that morning stroll

Spain’s Costa Dorada is the ideal destination for families and couples seeking a relaxing, easy-going summer break, and provides the perfect springboard for exploring the fascinating Catalan region. I recently stayed on the coast in Salou at a Eurocamp campsite, and found both the level of service, facilities and price to be beyond compare. My two-bedroom ‘Cezanne’ mobile home was well appointed, and during late May when I was there would cost £471 for seven nights. Cezanne caravans can sleep up to four adults and two children. The holiday park itself, Cambrils Park, was immaculate, with a truly spectacular pool complex, evening entertainment and a well-stocked supermarket. Internet access, restaurants, bars, laundry service and cash machines are all located on site, making my rental car almost unnecessary! In terms of tourist attractions, Spain’s Costa Dorada won’t disappoint – a short distance from Salou can be found Tarragona, with its Roman ruins, Port Aventura theme park – and, to my mind best of all – Barcelona, only an hour and a half by train. Here, you can stroll down La Rambla and sample the colourful market stalls, street performers and many restaurants and bars – which should come as a well earned rest after scaling the towering Gaudi edifice, Sagrada Familia, and surveying the spectacular view of the city from the top. Salou itself is a lively resort town, with an attractive sandy beach (only a ten minute walk from Cambrils Park), and no shortage of restaurants and shops. Only a short distance along the coast is Cambrils, a bustling port town, where one can sit at a beachfront tapas bar and watch the world go by. Eurocamp’s holiday reps were incredibly helpful and efficient, ensuring a relaxing stay. Both checking in and checking out of the campsite was a quick and easy process, and they were always on hand to answer any questions. In short, Eurocamp at Cambrils Park in Salou is guaranteed to provide a high standard of accommodation for any families fancying a peaceful, reasonably priced holiday in the Spanish sunshine. But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. (Paul’s comment in his letter to the Galatians shows that Peter was not the ‘first pope’ – nor was anyone else.)
